Great British Choral Anthems
The choir of Hereford Cathedral is joining forces with the City of London Sinfonia in a performance of George Frederick Handel’s four great Coronation Anthems, including the famous Zadok the Priest, which has been sung at every British coronation since that of George II in 1727.
As well as the works by Handel, the cathedral choir will be singing a number of pieces on its own, including works by Taverner, Tallis and Byrd. Peter Dyke, the cathedral’s assistant director of music, will be playing an organ concerto by Handel.

The concert will be conducted by Stephen Layton and Geraint Bowen.
The orchestra and its principal conductor Stephen Layton are also running a ‘Come and Sing’ session on Tallis’s famous 40-part motet Spem in alium for local singers. Tickets for the workshop are priced at £12.50 (including music) and can be purchased here. The workshop takes place in the cathedral that morning from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm.
